"Foi com os porcos" é uma das frases populares mais utilizadas pelo povo Português. Estamos sempre a dizer isto a toda a hora. Se não reparem, quantos disseram isto quando o Benfica perdeu a época passada? Quantos disseram isto quando o Miguel Relvas foi-se embora e agora mais recentemente o outro Miguel, o Gonçalves do" bater punho" ("We have to beat fist")?
Existe também a abreviatura deste dizer. O "Já foste!" ("You already went!") é muito utilizado principalmente quando estamos a assistir ao vivo alguém a ir com os porcos. 


Mas de onde veio este dizer perguntam vocês? Bom, para isso teremos de ir à Bíblia. Pensa-se que a origem deste dizer foi baseada no Evangelho, segundo Mateus, capítulo 8, versículo 29 e seguintes. Jesus andava a fazer milagres e a expulsar demónios de pessoas que estavam doentes e os demónios não gostaram nada da cena ("They didn't like the scene"). E disseram: "Que temos nós contigo, Filho de Deus? Vieste aqui atormentar-nos antes do tempo?"


Nisto andava por perto uma vara e os demónios pediram a Jesus Cristo se podiam entrar nos porcos. Aqui "entrar" leia-se "possuir". E Jesus Cristo concordou e disse... IDE! 
Ora aqui ele podia ter dito mesmo "Ide com os Porcos", mas como não inventaram a máquina do tempo para saber as palavras exactas que Jesus Cristo usou, nunca saberemos se este dizer tão popular aqui no nosso país, foi dito pela primeira vez pelo próprio Jesus Cristo!


Entretanto os demónios lá entraram nos porcos e nisto a vara inteira precipitou-se para um penhasco e atiraram-se ao mar morrendo todos afogados. Ou por outras palavras... Os demónios foram com os porcos!

E agora já sabem de onde veio este Saying. ;)

"It went with the pigs" is one of the most popular sayings that the Portuguese people use. They say this every time! They say it when their favorite soccer team loses the championship, they say it when they see someone fall, they say it when some politician is fired... Hell, they say it for "Everything and for nothing".

So what is the origin of this saying? This saying, like a lot of the sayings in Portugal, is based on the Bible. It is believed that it is based on the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 8, verse 29 and following. 

So the story goes like this: Jesus was doing some awesome miracles and exorcising some demons of people who were sick and that pissed off the demons. So the demons came to Jesus and asked: What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come to torment us before the appointed time?

Meanwhile, a herd of many swine approached and the demons asked Jesus to send them to the herd of swines. And Jesus said "Go then! Go with the pigs!"

The demons possessed the pigs, and then, the pigs rushed down the steep bank into the sea where they drowned. In other words the demons "Went with the pigs!"
