The worst blind is the one who doesn't want to see

Olá a todos! Como foi essa passagem de ano? Muita festa e curtição? Soltaram a franga? - "You guys released the chicken?" Espero que sim e espero que tenham um grande 2014!

Hoje vou falar-vos do dizer "Pior cego é aquele que não quer ver", que significa não querer ver a realidade. É a negação da verdade.

A origem deste dizer é fruto de um episódio verdadeiro que é digno de um excelente filme de hollywood.

Tudo aconteceu em 1647 em França numa universidade localizada em Nimes. O Dr. Vincent de Paul Argent fez o primeiro transplante de córnea com sucesso num doente que sempre tinha sido cego. Esse doente chamava-se Angel. Na altura, foi um feito incrível, um verdadeiro milagre, até porque só por volta de 1950 é que se começou a fazer transplantes deste género com uma elevada taxa de sucesso. 

Na época toda a gente ficou maravilhada com o feito, toda a gente menos Angel que ficou horrorizado ao ver o mundo pela primeira vez. Angel dizia que o mundo que tinha imaginado era muito melhor e que preferia voltar a ser cego. Angel pediu ao cirurgião para que este arrancasse os seus olhos. O Dr. Vincent não queria acreditar e no início disse que nunca faria tal coisa. Angel levou o caso para o tribunal de Paris e para o Vaticano. No final, os tribunais deram razão a Angel e este ficou conhecido como o primeiro cego que não quis ver. Angel pode assim voltar ao seu mundo imaginado,  protegendo-se do mundo verdadeiro.

É realmente uma história fantástica, ficando no ar a questão de como seria esse tal mundo imaginado por Angel.

You can say this saying to someone who doesn't want to knowledge the truth. It is someone who is denying the reality. 

The origin of this saying is from a true story that happened many years ago. I think somebody should make a movie, based on this tale. It's that exciting! Really!!!

In 1647, in a french city called Nimes, Dr. Vincent de Paul Argent did the first successful corneal transplantation on a human being, called Angel, that was blind. It was an huge success! Angel could now see and everybody was astonished by the Dr. Vincent accomplishment. Everybody but Angel. You see, Angel was horrified when he saw the real world. He said that the world he has imagined was much better, so he demanded that the doctor ripped of his eye's. He wanted to be blind again. The doctor couldn't believe that Angel wanted to become blind again, and he didn't want to put him blind. So Angel took the case to the Paris and Vatican Courts. The courts gave reason to Angel and he became the first blind man that didn't want to see. Angel could now return to his imagined world and never see the real one again in his life.

It's really an amazing story. I wonder how Angel's world looked like.
